Strengthening a growing brand with an informative welcome brochure
Some context
Austin, Texas is home to many things: 24-hour donuts, the Longhorns, and most importantly, Philbeck Private Wealth Management. This firm is owned and operated by Nicholas Philbeck, MBA, AIF®, a Registered Financial Advisor and Investment Advisor Representative with over a decade of experience in the financial services industry.
Philbeck Private Wealth Management is an independent investment advisory practice dedicated to providing personalized, white-glove financial services tailored to each client’s goals, circumstances, and long-term aspirations. Through bespoke strategies in financial planning, investment management, and retirement planning, the firm delivers a boutique experience supported by the extensive research, resources, and technology of LPL Financial, a Fortune 500 institution.
Establishing goals
With a freshly designed logo and company website, this client came to me in hopes of creating a brochure that introduced potential clients to his company. To do this, I was asked to:
Utilize the content from the website to create a brochure covering all that the firm had to offer.
Use the phrase “Backed by Strength, Built on Freedom” as a core principle of the brand.
Meet compliance regulations in phrasing of company services and legal information.
Since this is the first brochure used by the firm, I was also given creative freedom on how the information was presented.
Stylistic analysis
When working with a new brand, I always take the time to explore the brand as much as possible. In the case of small businesses like this, I usually perform an in-depth analysis of their website. This time, I was able to use the website to identify:
Applicable content to use on the brochure
The brand’s typographic style and color palette
Photos to use on the brochure

Strengthening branding with strategic creative choices
Based on my findings, I made the following choices that impacted the design of the brochure:
Using the website as a direct reference for brand guidelines.
Utilizing the logo icon as a repeated shape throughout the design.
By being cohesive throughout the design, new clients have a polished experience when interacting with the brand for the first time. Furthermore, by utilizing the logo icon as a design motif, the brand becomes more solidified and memorable in the minds of clients. To me, the goal was to get people looking at and remembering this growing brand.

With such a wide range of services available at Philbeck Private Wealth Management, the client needed an informative brochure introducing the firm to prospective clients - something he could hand out to interested parties so they could learn more about the growing business. Without a preexisting brochure design to use, he enlisted my services to help strengthen his brand.

I created the brochure using the website and logo for design reference. In using these pre-established designs, I was able to round out the brand in print, giving new clients a polished, cohesive experience when learning about the brand for the first time. I made the following choices to achieve this goal:
Using the website as a direct reference for brand guidelines including typography, color palette, photography, and content.
Utilizing the logo icon as a design motif in the brochure, including as an image frame shape and background detail.
Reflecting on my work
This project is one that I hold close to my heart as it was done for my amazing soon-to-be brother-in-law. Though, on a more professional note, it is also the only project I have done for a financial advising company. As this is an industry that relies heavily on trust and cohesion, I was excited to put my analytical mind and attention to detail to the test with this brochure.
“[Christina] was extremely receptive to my input and feedback throughout the process, asked thoughtful questions, and incorporated changes seamlessly.”
